Abstract

La invención proporciona un método para tratar dióxido de titanio particulado. El método comprende: i) proporcionar dióxido de titanio particulado, en donde el dióxido de titanio particulado está recubierto con óxido de aluminio y/o incluye dentro de su estructura cristalina óxido de aluminio en exceso molar de la cantidad requerida para compensar cualquier Nb2056 en dicha estructura cristalina; y, posteriormente, ii) tratar el dióxido de titanio particulado con un agente de recubrimiento que es un ácido alquilfosfórico o un éster del mismo, en donde el ácido alquilfosfórico tiene un grupo alquilo de 6 a 22 átomos de carbono y micronizar con vapor el dióxido de titanio particulado, en donde la temperatura de salida del vapor que sale del micronizador de vapor es de 150°C o más, con el fin de obtener un dióxido de titanio particulado micronizado que se proporciona con un agente de recubrimiento en su superficie exterior. El dióxido de titanio particulado tratado tal como se obtiene mediante el método puede incorporarse en una composición de polímero de manera que aumente su índice de fluidez, mejore su dispersabilidad, aumente su hidrofobicidad y/o aumente su densidad aparente.
