Abstract

La presente invención se refiere a un procedimiento para recuperación de azufre de un gas que contiene sulfuro de hidrógeno, que consiste de oxidar el sulfuro de hidrógeno con oxígeno, y luego hacer reaccionar el gas producido de esta oxidación además usando por lo menos dos etapas catalíticas, de conformidad con la ecuación: 2H2S + SO2 2H2O + 3/n Sn, caracterizado en que la concentración del H2S en el gas que sale de la última etapa catalítica se controla, para tener un valor que varía entre 0.8 y 3 por ciento en volumen, reduciendo la cantidad del aire de combustión u oxidación que se hace pasar hacia la etapa de oxidación y/o ocasionando que una porción del gas del material de alimentación que contiene sulfuro de hidrógeno se desvíe de la etapa de oxidación y se añada al agas que fluye hacia una etapa catalítica.
