Abstract

플라즈마어드레스 전기광학장치의 교류구동을 행하는데 있어서 저전압화를 도모한다.
상측의 유리기판(4)의 내표면에는 신호전극 L이 형성되어 있다.
하측의 유리기판(7)의 내표면에는 신호전극 L과 직교하는 애노드 A와 캐소드 K로 이루어지는 복수의 플라즈마전국(8)이 형성되어 있다. 상측의 유리기판(4)과 중간의 유전체시트(3)와의 사이에는 액정층(6) 충전되어 있다. 또, 유전체시트(3)와 하측의 유리기관(7)의 사이에는 플라즈마실(11)이 형성되어 내부에 이온화가능한 가스가 봉입되어 있다. 캐소드 K와 애노드 A간의 방전에 의해 상기 가스를 선택적으로 이온화하고, 이 이온화가스의 국재(局在)된 방전영역을 주사단위로 하여 신호전극 L과 방전영역의 교차부에 위치하는 액정층(6)을 구동한다. 이 구동회로에는 반전회로(22)가 포함되어 있고, 액정층(6)의 구동전압 VL의 대략 중간의 전위 VLref를 기준으로 하여, 신호전극 L에 인가하는 화상신호 SL와 상기 애노드 A의 전위 SA를 동시에 반전하도록 하고 있다.

제2도는 제1도에 도시한 플라즈마어드레스 전기광학장치의 동작을 설명하기 위한 파형도.
제3도는 제1도에 도시한 플라즈마어드레스 전기광학장치의 전체 회로구성도.

Claims (2)

  1. 소정의 주면(主面)에 따라서 서로 평행으로 배열된 복수의 제1전극을 갖는 제1의 기판과, 상기 제1전극과 직교하고 또한 서로 평행으로 배열된 애노드와 캐소드로 이루어지는 복수의 제2전극을 갖는 동시에 이 제2전극이 상기 제1전극과 대향하도록 배치된 제2의 기판과, 상기 제1 및 제2의 기판 사이에 삽입된 전기광학재료층과, 이 전기광학재료층과 상기 제2의 기판사이에 형성된 이온화 가능한 가스를 봉입하기 위한 플라즈마실을 구비하고, 인접하는 제2전극간의 방전에 의해 상기 가스를 선택적으로 이온화하고, 이 이온화가스의 국재(局在)된 방전영역을 주사단위로 하여 상기 제1 전극과 상기 방전영역의 교차부에 위치하는 전기광학재료층을 구동하도록 한 플라즈마어드레스 전기광학장치에 있어서, 상기 전기광학재료층의 구동전압의 대략 중간의 전위를 기준으로 하여, 상기 제1전극에 인가하는 신호와 상기 애노드의 전위를 동시에 반전하는 수단을 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 플라즈마어드레스 전기광학장치.
  2. 방전플라즈마를 주사단위로 하여 신호전극과 플라즈마방전영역의 교차부에 위치하는 전기광학재료층을 구동하도록 한 플라즈마어드레스 전기광학장치의 구동방법에 있어서, 상기 전기광학재료층의 구동전압의 대략 중간의 전위를 기준으로 하여, 상기 신호전극에 인가하는 신호와 상기 방전플라즈마를 발생하는 애노드전위를 동시에 반전하는 것을 특징으로 하는 플라즈마어드레스 전기광학장치의 구동방법.
