제 1도는 필름 카메라용 액정 셔터 시스템의 단면도이다.
제 2도는 4캐릭터 8바아형 디스플레이(four character eight bar display)의 개략도 이다.
제 3a도 및 제 3b도는 각각 경사 키랄 스멕틱 액정 물질층의 양식화된 평면도 및 측면도이다.

Claims (16)

  1. 각각 전극 및 액정분자가 균일하게 정렬되어 정렬방향이 평행하거나 거의 평행하도록 처리된 표면을 수반하는 두 개의 셀 벽 사이에 함유된 경사 키랄 스멕틱 액정 결정물질의 층 ; 및 셀 벽면 어느 한면에 배열되어 있으며, 전환된 상태중의 어느 하나에 있어서 한 편광자의 광축이 다른 편광자의 광축에 대하여 교차하고 한 편광자의 광축이 액정분자의 정렬상태에 대해 평행한 두 개의 편광자로 이루어지며, 상기의 액정물질은 정상적인 장치 작동 온도에서는 경사 키랄 스멕틱 상이며 더 높은 온도에서는 콜레스테릭 상이고, 콜레스테릭 피치가 콜리스테릭/스멕틱 전이온도보다 적어도 0.1℃높은 콜레스테릭 상에서 층 두께 이상이며, 사실상 자발 분극 계수를 가지며, 온도가 증가함에 따라 상이 키랄 스멕틱-콜레스테릭-등방성으로 되는 물질임을 특징으로 하는 두가지 상태로 전환할 수 있는 액정장치.
  2. 제 1항에 있어서, 적합한 극성의 직류 펄스를 전극에 적용하여 장치의 상태를 광투과 상태와 불투명 상태 사이에서 변화시키는 수단 ; 장치에 입사되는 빛을 측정하는 수단 ; 및 측정된 빛이 예정치를 초과하는 경우에 비-광투과 상태로 장치를 전환시키는 수단을 추가로 포함하는 장치.
  3. 제 1항에 있어서, 셀 벽상의 정렬상태가 대략 평행하며, 동일한 방향인 장치.
  4. 제 1항에 있어서, 순 자발분극계수 Ps가 0.1nC/㎠이상인 장치.
  5. 제 1항에 있어서, 순 자발분극계수 Ps가 1.0nC/㎠이상인 장치.
  6. 제 1항에 있어서, 스멕틱 피치가 1㎛이상인 장치.
  7. 제 1항에 있어서, 스멕틱 피치가 액정 초 두께이상인 장치.
  8. 제 1항에 있어서, 액정 층 두께 d가 15㎛미만인 장치.
  9. 제 8항에 있어서, 콜레스테릭 피치 p가 콜레스테릭/스멕틱상 전이보다 적어도 0.1℃높은 콜레스테릭상에서 2d인 장치.
  10. 제 8항에 있어서, 콜레스테릭 피치P가 콜레스테릭/스멕틱상 전이보다 적어도 0.1℃높은 콜레스테릭 상에서 4d인 장치.
  11. 제 1항에 있어서, 장치작동 온도가 100℃이하인 장치.
  12. 제 1항에 있어서, 장치작동 온도가 40℃이하인 장치.
  13. 제 1항에 있어서, 두가지 전환된 상태에서의 액정 분자 방향(D1, D2)사이의 각도가 약 45℃인 장치.
  14. 제 1항에 있어서, 전극이 형성되어 디지탈 값을 표시하는 장치.
  15. 제 4항에 있어서, 액정층과 편광자를 통해 주위의 빛을 역반사 시키는 반사기를 추가로 포함하는 장치.
  16. 제 1항에 있어서, 하나의 편광자가 액정물질에서 다량의 이색성 염료로 대치된 장치.
