제1도는 본 발명에 따른 장치의 개략적인 단면도, 제2도는 광로 길이의 함수로써 교차된 편광기 사이에서 단일 액정층의 개략적인 전달도, 제3도는 전달/전압 특성 곡선도, 제4도 및 5도는 제2셀 양단의 다른 보상 전압 값에서 제1도에 따른 장치에 대한 다른 전달/전압 특성 곡선도.

Claims (8)

  1. 제1액정 물질층 양단에 작동 범위의 전압을 제공하기 위하여 구동 전극이 구비된 한쌍의 제1지지 판 사이에서 상기 제1액정 물질층을 갖는 제1셀과, 전극이 구비된 한쌍의 제2지지 판 사이에서 제2액정 물질층을 갖는 제2셀을 구비하며, 상기 제1액정 물질은, 복굴절 효과가 최저 동작 전압에서 일어나는 액정 분자의 월 오리엔테이션 및 트위스트 각도와 정극성 유전비등방성을 가지며, 상기 제2액정 물질은 제1액정 물질층의 트위스트각도에 반대인 액정 분자의 트위스트 각도를 가지는 액정 표시 장치에 있어서, 바이어스 전압은 전극에 의해 제2액정 물질층 양단에 인가되고, 상기 바이어스 전압은 제2액정 물질층내에서 복굴절 효과를 수용하며, 상기 복굴절 효과는 최저 또는 최고 동작 전압과 관련된 제1액정 물질층내의 복굴적 효과와 방향은 반대이며 크기는 동일한 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 장치의 전달율이 실질적으로 최소 또는 최고인 전압은 바이어스 전압으로 선택되는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
  3. 제1 또는 2항에 있어서, 두 셀에 대한 두께 d및 복굴절 차이 △n은 실질적으로 동일한 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
  4. 제3항에 있어서, 제1셀은 능동 구동 모드에서 동작되고 바이어스 전압은 최소 구동 전압과 동일하고 최소 구동 전압은 능동 구동을 위해 제1액정 물질층 양단에 인가되는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
  5. 선행항중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 장치는 상호 수직인 편광기를 구비하는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
  6. 반사기를 사용하는 제1내지 4항중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 상기 장치는 편광기 및 편광-반사기를 구비하며, 제2셀은 가시적인 면상에 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
  7. 선행항중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 제2셀의 광로 길이 d2△n2는 제1셀의 광 통로 길이 d1△n1와 동일한 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
  8. 선행항중 어느 한 항에 있어서, 두개의 셀은 공통 기판을 가지는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
