Abstract
Description
Claims (15)
- 한쪽 면에 전극을 갖는 한 쌍의 기판과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판 사이에 유지된 액정층을 구비하되, 복수의 도트 영역으로 이루어지는 화소 영역을 복수 배열하여 이루어지는 표시 영역을 구비한 액정 표시 장치로서,상기 액정층은 유전 이방성이 부인 액정을 포함하고,상기 한 쌍의 기판의 전극 중 적어도 한쪽 전극은 상기 도트 영역 내에서 복수의 섬 형상부와, 인접하는 상기 섬 형상부를 서로 전기적으로 접속하는 연결부를 갖고 있고,복수의 상기 도트 영역 중 2개의 도트 영역 사이에 끼인 1개의 도트 영역의 섬 형상부가, 상기 2개의 도트 영역에 마련된 연결부 사이에 위치하고, 또한, 상기 표시 영역 내에서 복수의 상기 섬 형상부가 벌집 형상으로 배열되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 한쪽 면에 전극을 갖는 한 쌍의 기판과, 상기 한 쌍의 기판 사이에 유지된 액정층을 구비하되, 복수의 도트 영역으로 이루어지는 화소 영역을 복수 배열하여 이루어지는 표시 영역을 구비한 액정 표시 장치로서,상기 액정층은 유전 이방성이 부인 액정을 포함하고,상기 한 쌍의 기판의 전극 중 적어도 한쪽 전극은 상기 도트 영역 내에서 복 수의 섬 형상부와, 인접하는 상기 섬 형상부를 상호 전기적으로 접속하는 연결부를 갖고 있고,복수의 상기 도트 영역 중 2개의 도트 영역 사이에 끼인 1개의 도트 영역의 섬 형상부가, 상기 2개의 도트 영역에 마련된 연결부 사이에 위치하고 있는것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,복수의 상기 섬 형상부가 상기 도트 영역 내에서 직선 형상으로 늘어서도록 배열되고,상기 화소 영역 내에 있어, 복수의 상기 도트 영역 중 인접하는 상기 도트 영역은 상기 섬 형상부가 배열되는 방향으로 서로 어긋나게 배치되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 화소 영역 내에 복수의 상기 도트 영역이 배열되어 있고,상기 각 도트 영역 내에 있어, 복수의 상기 섬 형상부 중 인접하는 상기 섬 형상부끼리가, 상기 도트 영역이 배열되는 방향과 교차하는 방향으로 서로 어긋나게 배치되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 각 섬 형상부의 평면 영역에서, 전압 인가 시에, 방사 형상의 배향 상태를 나타내는 액정 도메인이 형성되는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 5 항에 있어서,상기 각 섬 형상부와 대향하는 전극에, 해당 섬 형상부의 중심부에 겹치는 배향 제어 수단이 마련되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 6 항에 있어서,상기 배향 제어 수단은 상기 전극 상에 마련된 유전체 돌기, 또는 상기 전극을 잘라내어 형성된 개구부인 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 5 항에 있어서,상기 액정층은 카이랄제(chiral dopant)를 포함하고, 전압 인가 시에 상기 섬 형상부의 평면 영역에서 소용돌이 방사 형상의 배향 상태를 나타내는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 각 섬 형상부는 육각형 형상을 갖고 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 각 섬 형상부는 다각형 형상을 갖고 있고, 해당 각 섬 형상부의 모서리부는 곡선 형상으로 형성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 도트 영역의 피치가 40㎛보다 작은 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 도트 영역 내에 부분적으로 반사막이 형성되고, 해당 반사막의 형성 영역에 반사 표시 영역이 마련되고, 상기 반사막의 비형성 영역에 투과 표시 영역이 마련되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 12 항에 있어서,상기 반사 표시 영역과 투과 표시 영역에서 상기 액정층의 층 두께가 다른 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 13 항에 있어서,상기 액정층 두께를 다르게 하기 위해 상기 도트 영역 내에 형성되는 경계 단차 영역이 상기 연결부와 겹쳐 배치되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 청구항 1 또는 청구항 2에 기재된 액정 표시 장치를 구비한 것을 특징으로 하는 전자기기.
