Abstract
Description
Claims (8)
- 한 쌍의 기판 사이에 액정층을 유지하여 이루어지고, 하나의 돗트 영역 내에 투과 표시를 하는 투과 표시 영역과 반사 표시를 하는 반사 표시 영역이 마련된 액정 표시 장치로서,상기 액정층은, 초기 배향 상태가 수직 배향을 나타내는 유전 이방성이 부(negative)인 액정으로 이루어지고, 상기 한 쌍의 기판의 상기 액정층쪽에는 해당 액정을 구동하기 위한 전극이 각각 마련되고 또한,상기 한 쌍의 기판의 전극 중의 적어도 한쪽의 전극에는, 상기 투과 표시 영역 및 상기 반사 표시 영역의 각각에서, 상기 액정의 배향을 규제하기 위한 배향 규제 수단으로서, 전극의 일부를 개구하여 형성한 슬릿 형상의 개구부 및/또는 전극 상에 형성된 유전체로 이루어지는 볼록 형상부가 마련되며,상기 슬릿 형상의 개구부의 개구 면적 및/또는 유전체의 볼록 형상부의 상기 기판 평면 방향 점유 면적이, 상기 투과 표시 영역보다도 상기 반사 표시 영역에서 크게 구성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항에 있어서,상기 한 쌍의 기판에 마련된 각 전극 사이의 거리가, 상기 투과 표시 영역과 상기 반사 표시 영역에 있어서, 대략 동일하게 구성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 유전체로 이루어지는 볼록 형상부는, 상기 전극 상에 마련되는 것으로서, 해당 전극면에 대하여 소정의 각도로 경사지는 경사면을 갖는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 반사 표시 영역에 형성된 상기 개구부 및/또는 상기 볼록 형상부 중 인접하는 개구부 및/또는 볼록 형상부 사이의 거리가, 상기 투과 표시 영역에 형성된 상기 개구부 및/또는 상기 볼록 형상부 중 인접하는 개구부 및/또는 볼록 형상부 사이의 거리보다도 작게 구성되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 개구부 및/또는 볼록 형상부는, 상기 수직 배향된 액정 분자가 전계 변화에 근거하여 기울어지는 방향을 규제하는 구성을 구비하고 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 1 항 또는 제 2 항에 있어서,상기 한 쌍의 기판으로서 상부 기판과 하부 기판을 포함하고, 상기 하부 기판의 액정층과 반대쪽에는 투과 표시용의 백 라이트가 마련되고 또한, 해당 하부 기판의 액정층쪽에는 상기 반사 표시 영역에만 선택적으로 형성된 반사막이 마련되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 제 6 항에 있어서,상기 상부 기판의 액정층쪽, 또는 상기 반사막의 액정층쪽에 컬러 필터층이 마련되어 있는 것을 특징으로 하는 액정 표시 장치.
- 청구항 1에 기재된 액정 표시 장치를 구비한 것을 특징으로 하는 전자 기기.
