구성 및 제어 스크린(80)이 적절히 기입된 후 제출될 때, 주문 처리가 완료된다. 프로그램 가이드 시스템은, 시청자의 주문을 확인하기 위해 응답 스크린을 제공할 수 있다(도시 안됨).
만일 선택된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램이 즉석에서 개시되지 않을 것이라면, 프로그램을 전송하는데 필요한 대역폭을 줄이기 위해 국부 메모리(예컨대, 홈 스토리지 장치(35))에 완전히 또는 부분적으로 다운로드되거나 및/또는 피크 시간대가 아닌 시간에 전송될 수도 있다. 프로그램에 대한 이와 같은 "예약 구매(advance order)"에 대해 가격 할인이 제공될 수 있다(도시 안됨).
도 9는 표시 특징을 브라우즈하는데 제공되는 일부 단계를 나타내는 흐름도이다. 단계 100에서, 프로그램 가이드는 시청자에게 비디오-온-디맨드 브라우즈 모드 또는 통상의 브라우즈 모드를 불러내기 위한 옵션을 제공한다. 만일 시청자가 비디오-온-디맨드 브라우즈 모드의 호출을 선택하는 경우, 프로그램 가이드 디스플레이(70)는 단계 101에서 시청자 텔레비젼 장치(30) 상에 표시된다. 만일 시청자 가 통상의 브라우즈 모드의 호출을 선택하는 경우, 프로그램 가이드는 시청자 텔레비젼 장치(30) 상에 프로그램 가이드 디스플레이를 표시하는데(도시 안됨), 대개 현재의 채널을 반영하는 프로그램 리스트를 표시할 것이다.

이 시점에서, 시청자는 더 많은 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램을 브라우즈하기 위해 프로그램 가이드 디스플레이(70)로 복귀하거나, 또는 원한다면, 시청자가 TV로 나가기 키를 눌러 프로그램 가이드를 탈출할 수 있다(단계 105).
만일 선택된 프로그램이 즉시 개시되도록 설정되는 경우, 프로그램 가이드는 즉시 프로그램을 제공한다, 그러나, 선택된 프로그램이 나중의 시간을 위해 주문된 경우, 프로그램 가이드는 그 나중의 시간에 프로그램을 자동으로 개시할 수 있다.

Claims (16)

  1. 메인 디스플레이 스크린을 구비하는 시청자 텔레비전 장치 상에 구현되는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템에 있어서,
    상기 시청자 텔레비전 장치 상에서 소정의 텔레비전 프로그램이 디스플레이되는 것과 동시에, 적어도 하나의 비디오-온-디맨드(video-on-demand) 프로그램 리스트를 포함하는 프로그램 가이드 디스플레이를 디스플레이하는 수단;
    시청자가 상기 프로그램 가이드 디스플레이 내에 디스플레이된 상기 적어도 하나의 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램 리스트를 브라우즈(browse through)할 수 있도록 해주는 수단으로서, 상기 적어도 하나의 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램 리스트 각각은 소스(source) 식별자에 각각 대응되는 것인, 상기 브라우즈 수단;
    상기 시청자가 상기 프로그램 가이드 디스플레이 내에 디스플레이된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램 리스트 중 적어도 하나의 프로그램 중에서 하나를 선택할 수 있도록 해주는 수단;
    상기 시청자가 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램에 대한 주문을 할 수 있도록 해주는 수단;
    상기 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램을 즉시 시작하기 위한 옵션을 상기 시청자에게 제공하는 수단; 및
    상기 시청자가 상기 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램을 즉시 시작하기 위한 옵션을 선택할 때, 상기 각각의 소스 식별자에 대응하는 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그래밍 소스로부터 상기 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램을 즉시 검색(retrieving)하는 수단
    을 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템.
  2. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 시청자가 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램의 시작 시간을 선택할 수 있도록 해주는 수단을 더 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템.

  4. 제3항에 있어서, 상기 리마인드 수단은 상기 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램을 즉시 시청하기 위한 옵션을 상기 시청자에게 제공하는 수단을 포함하는 것인, 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템.
  5. 제1항에 있어서, 상기 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램의 적어도 일부를 저장 장치에 저장하는 수단을 더 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템.
  6. 제5항에 있어서, 상기 시청자가 상기 저장 장치에 저장된 상기 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램을 시청할 수 있도록 해주는 수단을 더 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템.
  7. 제1항에 있어서, 주문을 할 때, 상기 시청자가 부모 제어 코드(parental contol code)를 입력(enter)할 수 있도록 해주는 수단을 더 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템.
  8. 제1항에 있어서, 주문을 한 것에 응답하여 주문 확인 디스플레이 스크린을 디스플레이하는 수단을 더 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템.
  9. 메인 디스플레이 스크린(main display screen)을 구비하는 시청자 텔레비전 장치 상에 구현되는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템을 사용하기 위한 방법에 있어서,
    상기 시청자 텔레비전 장치 상에서, 소정의 텔레비전 프로그램이 디스플레이되는 것과 동시에, 적어도 하나의 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램 리스트를 포함하는 프로그램 가이드 디스플레이를 디스플레이하는 단계;
    시청자가 상기 프로그램 가이드 디스플레이 내에 디스플레이된 상기 적어도 하나의 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램 리스트를 브라우즈(browse through)할 수 있도록 해주는 단계로서, 상기 적어도 하나의 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램 리스트 각각은 소스(source) 식별자에 각각 대응되는 것인, 상기 브라우즈 단계;
    상기 시청자가 상기 프로그램 가이드 디스플레이 내에 디스플레이된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램 리스트 중 적어도 하나의 프로그램 중에서 하나를 선택할 수 있도록 해주는 단계;
    상기 시청자가 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램을 위해 주문할 수 있도록 해주는 단계;
    상기 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램을 즉시 시작하기 위한 옵션을 상기 시청자에게 제공하는 단계; 및
    상기 시청자가 상기 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램을 즉시 시작하기 위한 옵션을 선택할 때, 상기 각각의 소스 식별자에 대응하는 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그래밍 소스로부터 상기 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램을 즉시 검색(retrieving)하는 단계
    를 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템 사용 방법.
  10. 제9항에 있어서, 상기 시청자가 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램의 시작 시간을 선택할 수 있도록 해주는 단계를 더 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템 사용 방법.
  11. 제10항에 있어서, 상기 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드의 시작 시간을 상기 시청자에게 리마인드(remind)시키는 단계를 더 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템 사용 방법.
  12. 제11항에 있어서, 상기 리마인드시키는 단계는 상기 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램을 즉시 시청하기 위한 옵션을 상기 시청자에게 제공하는 단계를 포함하는 것인, 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템 사용 방법.
  13. 제9항에 있어서, 상기 주문된 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램의 적어도 일부를 저장 장치에 저장하는 단계를 더 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템 사용 방법.
  14. 제13항에 있어서, 상기 시청자가 상기 저장 장치에 저장된 상기 비디오-온-디맨드 프로그램을 시청할 수 있도록 해주는 단계를 더 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템 사용 방법.
  15. 제9항에 있어서, 주문을 할 때, 상기 시청자가 부모 제어 코드(parental contol code)를 입력(enter)할 수 있도록 해주는 단계를 더 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템 사용 방법.
  16. 제9항에 있어서, 주문을 한 것에 응답하여 주문 확인 디스플레이 스크린을 디스플레이하는 단계를 더 포함하는 대화형 텔레비전 프로그램 가이드 시스템 사용 방법.
