트랙폭을 측정하여 위치에러신호를 보다 정확히 측정하고자 한다.
[발명의 해결방법의 요지]
본 발명은, 하드 디스크 드라이브에서 위치 에러신호를 정확히 측정하기 위한 방법에 있어서, 파워온 측정동작시 인접한 두 개 트랙을 차례로 추종하여 트랙폭을 측정하는 제1과정과, 상기 트랙폭 측정에 따른 위치에러신호의 퍼센트값을 업데이트하는 제2과정으로 이루어진다.

본 발명은 하드 디스크 드라이브(Hard Disk Drive) 에 관한 것으로, 특히 위치에러신호를 보다 정확히 측정하기 위한 방법에 관한 것이다.
일반적으로 하드 디스크 드라이브의 버스트 검출에 의한 위치에러신호(Position Error Signal : 이하 PES라 칭함)는 A/D 변환기의 해상도에 의해 그 값이 결정된다. 그리고 PES의 최대값 및 최소값등도 상기 A/D 변환기의 해상도에 의해 그값이 결정된다.
이로 인해 PES의 퍼센트(percentage) 값들은 실제로 측정되는 트랙폭에 의거해 값이 결정되는 것이 아니다. 다만 A/D 변환기의 해상도에만 따르는 절대적인 값(상수임)으로 결정된다. 통상 트랙폭은 헤드의 마진, 기록매체의 특성, 서보라이트등에 의해 달라질 수 있다. 그렇기 때문에 기구 및 회로물 또는 외부 환경에 따라 트랙폭이 달라지면, PES의 퍼센트(percentage)값들에 대한 정확성은 보장될 수 없다.
따라서 본 발명의 목적은 위치에러신호를 보다 정확히 측정하는 방법을 제공하는데 있다.
본발명의 다른 목적은 파워온 측정동작시 트랙폭을 측정하여 위치에러신호의 퍼센트값을 정확히 측정할 수 있는 방법을 제공하는데 있다.
상기한 목적에 따라 본 발명은, 하드 디스크 드라이브에서 위치에러신호를 정확히 측정하기 위한 방법에 있어서, 파워온 측정동작시 인접한 두 개 트랙을 차례로 추종하여 트랙폭을 측정하는 제1과정과, 상기 트랙폭 측정에 따른 위치에러신호의 퍼센트값을 업데이트하는 제2과정으로 이루짐을 특징으로 한다.
이하 본 발명의 바람직한 실시예가 첨부된 도면을 참조하여 상세히 설명될 것이다.
제1도는 본 발명에 적용되는 통상적인 하드 디스크 드라이브의 블록 구성도를 보여주고 있다. 제1도를 참조하면, 디스크들 10은 스핀들(spindle) 모터 34에 의해 회전한다. 헤드들 12는 디스크들 10 중 대응하는 하나의 디스크면상에 위치하며, 환상 보이스 코일(rotary voice coil) 액츄에이터 30과 결합된 E-불럭 어셈블러 14로부터 디스크들 10쪽으로 신장된 서포트 암들에 각각 대응되게 설치된다. 전치증폭기 16은 리드시에는 헤드들 12중 하나에 의해 픽업된 신호를 전치증폭하여 아나로그 리드 신호를 리드/라이트 채널(read/write channel) 회로 18에 인가하며, 라이트시에는 리드/라이트 채널회로 18로부터 인가되는 부호화된 라이트데이타를 헤드들 12중 대응하는 하나의 헤드를 통해 디스크 상에 라이트 되도록 한다. 리드/라이트 채널 회로 18은 전치증폭기 16으로부터 인가되는 리드신호로부터 데이터 펄스를 검출하고 디코딩하여 DDC(Disk Data Controller) 20에 인가하며, DDC 20으로부터 인가되는 라이트 데이터를 디코딩하여 전치증폭기 16에 인가한다. DDC 20은 호스트 컴퓨터로부터 수신되는 데이타를 리드/라이트 채널회로 18과 전치증폭기 16을 통해 디스크상에 라이트 하거나 디스크상으로부터 데이터를 리드하여 호스트 컴퓨터로 송신한다., 또한 DDC 20은 호스트 컴퓨터와 마이크로 콘트롤러 24간의 통신을 인터페이스한다. 버퍼 램 22는 호스트 컴퓨터와, 마이크로 콘트롤러 24와, 리드/라이트 채널회로 18사이에 전송되는 데이터를 일시 저장한다. 마이크로 콘트롤러 26은 호스트 컴퓨터로부터 수신되는 리드 또는 라이트 명령에 응답하여 트랙 탐색 및 트랙 추종을 제어한다. 롬 26은 마이크로 콘트롤러 24의 수행 프로그램 및 각종 설정값들을 저장한다. 서보 구동부 28은 마이크로 콘트롤러 24로부터 발생되는 헤드들 12의 위치 제어를 위한 신호에 의해 액츄에이터 30을 구동하기 위한 구동전류를 발생하여 액츄에이터 30의 보이스 코일에 인가한다. 액츄에이터 30은 서보구동부 28로부터 인가되는 구동전류의 방향 및 레벨에 대응하여 헤드들 12를 디스크들 10 상에서 이동시킨다. 스핀들 모터 구동부 32는 마이크로 콘트롤러 24로부터 발생되는 디스크들 10의 회전 제어를 위한 제어값에 따라 스핀들 모터 34를 구동하여 디스크들 10을 회전시킨다. 디스크신호 제어부 36은 리드/라이트 채널회로 18로부터 출력되는 위치에러신호(PES)를 디지털 신호로 변환하여 마이크로 콘트롤러 24에 인가한다.
제2도는 본 발명의 실시예에 따라 파워온 측정동작(poweron calibration)시 트랙폭 측정을 위해 표현된 N, Q를 상세히 보여주는 도면이다. 제2도에서는 인접한 2개 트랙 즉, n-1 트랙(기수)과 N 트랙(우수)을 보여주고 있다. 인접한 2개의 트랙에는 PES 발생을 위한 A 버스트, B 버스트, C 버스트, 및 D 버스트가 존재한다. A 버스트는 n-1트랙(기수)과 n 트랙(우수)의 바깥쪽영역에 각각 반씩(1/2) 존재한다. B 버스트는 n-1트랙(기수)과 n 트랙(우수)의 안쪽영역에 각각 반씩(1/2) 존재한다. C 버스트는 n-1트랙(기수)영역에만 존재하고, D 버스트는 n 트랙(우수) 영역에만 존재한다.
본 발명의 실시예에 따라 제2도에서는 N 과 Q를 나타내고 있는데 N과 Q는 다음과 같이 정의 된다. 하기에서 A, B, C, D 는 각각 A 버스트, B 버스트, C 버스트, D 버스트이다
N = A - B
Q = C - D
제2도의 아랫부분에는 n-1트랙(기수)과 n 트랙(우수)각 부분에서 N과 Q의 크기값을 보여주고 있다, n-1트랙(기수)의 중심선 42에서는 N=0 이고, n 트랙(우수)의 중심선 40에서는 Q=D이다.
제3도는 본 발명의 실시예에 따라 위치에러신호를 정확히 측정하기 위한 제어 흐름도이다.
이하 제1도 내지 제3도를 참조하여 본 발명의 실시예에 따른 동작을 상세히 설명한다.
본 발명의 실시예에서는 파워온시 트랙폭 측정루틴을 수행한다. 따라서 제1도의 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 파워온이 되면 100단계에서 이를 체크하고, 102단계 진행한다. 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 102단계에서 트랙폭 측정루틴을 실행한다. 그에 따라 104단계에서 제1목표트랙 즉, n 트랙(우수)을 탐색토록 서보제어 한다. 그에 따라 헤드 12가 탐색을 수행하여 제1목표트랙을 찾아가게 되면 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 106단계에서 탐색이 완료되었는가를 판단한다. 탐색완료는 디스크 10으로부터 읽혀진 서보신호에 의하여 판단된다.
상기 106단계에서 탐색이 완료되었다고 판단되면 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 108단계로 진행하여 탐색안정화 및 트랙폭 측정의 정확성을 위해 일정시간 동안 대기한다. 그후 110단계로 진행한다. 110단계에서 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 트랙폭 측정을 위한 조건을 설정하고 헤드 12가 그 조건에 맞게 이동하도록 제어한다. 트랙폭 측정을 위한 조건은 N=Q이다.
제2도를 참조하여 110단계를 더욱 상세히 설명한다. 110단계가 수행되기 전에 헤드 12는 제1목표트랙 즉, 제2도의 n 트랙의 중심선 40부근에 있다. 그러다가 마이크로 콘트롤러 24가 110단계에서 트랙폭 측정을 위한 조건을 N=Q으로 설정하면 헤드 12는 제2도의 추종을 위한 선(이하 추종선이라 칭함) 44로 이동한다. 상기 추종선 44는 n 트랙(우수)의 중심선 40과 n-1트랙(기수)에 인접한 인접선 48의 중앙에 있으며 그 선들과 평행하다. 제2도의 N과 Q 값을 보면 추종선 44는 N=Q가 되는 지점이다.
110단계 수행에 의해 헤드 12가 추종선 44에 위치하면, 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 상기 선을 따라 소정 구간의 n 트랙(우수)을 추종한다. 113단계에서는 소정구간의 n 트랙(우수) 추종이 완료되었는가를 판단하고, 추종이 완료되었으면 114단계로 진행한다. 114단계에서 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 N의 값을 계산하고 이를 저장한다. N은 A-B 인데, 추종선 44를 따라 갈때에는 A 는 검출되지 않고, B 값은 반(1/2) 만 검출된다. 따라서 N 값은가 된다.
그후 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 116단계로 진행한다. 116단계에서 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 제2목표트랙 즉, n-1트랙(기수)을 탐색하도록 서보제어 한다. 그에 따라 헤드 12가 탐색을 수행하여 제2목표트랙을 찾아가게 된다. 그후 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 118단계로 진행한다.
제3도의 118단계 내지 126단계의 동작은 전술한 106단계 내지 114단계의 동작과 유사하다. 따라서 하기에서는 118단계 내지 126단계의 동작의 핵심만 설명될 것이다.
전술한 106단계 내지 114단계의 동작에서는 n 트랙(우수)의 추종선 44를 추종하여 n의 값을 계산하였다. 그런데 118단계 내지 126단계의 동작에서는 N-1트랙(기수)의 추종선 46을 추종하여 N의 값을 계산한다. N은 A-B 인데, 추종선 46을 따라 갈 때에는 B는 검출되지 않고, A값은 반(1/2)만 검출된다. 따라서 N값은가 된다.
106단계 내지 114단계의 동작 및 118단계 내지 126단계의 동작을 차례로 수행한 후 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 130단계로 진행한다. 130단계에서 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 N 트랙(우수)에서 구한 (106단계 내지 114단계의 동작에서 계산한) N 값과 N-1트랙(기수)에서 구한 (118단계 내지 126단계의 동작에서 계산한) N값을 더하여 트랙폭을 계산한다. 따라서 트랙폭은가 된다.
그후 마이크로 콘트롤러 24는 132단계로 진행하여 트랙폭 측정에 의거하여 PES의 퍼센트 값을 업데이트 한다.
상술한 바와 같이 본 발명은 파워온 측정동작시 트랙폭을 측정하여 위치에러 신호의 퍼센트값을 정확히 측정하게 되고, 그러면 위치에러신호가 정확히 측정된다.
Claims (3)
- 하드 디스크 드라이브에서 위치에러신호를 정확히 측정하기 이한 방법에 있어서, 파워온 측정동작시 인접한 두 개 트랙을 차례로 추종하여 트랙폭을 측정하는 제1과정과, 상기 트랙폭 측정에 따른 위치에러신호의 퍼센트값을 업데이트하는 제2과정으로 이루어짐을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 제1항에 있어서, 상기 제1과정은 인접한 두 개의 목표트랙중 하나인 제1목표트랙을 트랙폭측정을 위한 조건으로 제1목표트랙을 추종하여 한 트랙폭의 반값을 계산하는 제1단계와, 인접한 두 개의 목표트랙중 다른 하나인 제2목표트랙을 폭측정을 위한 조건으로 제2목표트랙을 추종하여 한 트랙폭의 반값을 계산하는 제2단계와, 상기 제1단계에서 계산된 한 트랙폭의 반값과 제2단계에서 계산된 한 트랙폭의 반값을 더하여 한 트랙의 폭을 구하는 제3단계로 이루어짐을 특징으로 하는 방법.
- 제2항에 있어서, 상기 제1 및 제2 목표트랙을 트랙폭측정을 위한 조건은 N=Q임을 특징으로 하는 방법. (여기서 N = A - B , Q = C - D , A, B, C, D 는 버스트 신호임).
