Claims (5)
- 親となるマッハ・ツェンダー型(MZM)光導波路と、
前記親のMZM光導波路を構成する2つのアームそれぞれに設けられた子となるMZM光導波路と、
前記子のMZM光導波路を構成する2つのアームに沿ってそれぞれ設けられ、変調信号が印加されることによりMZMを伝搬する光信号を位相変調する2つの電極線路と、
前記2つの電極線路にそれぞれ接続され、前記2つの電極線路に対し印加する前記変調信号を入力するためのRF引出線路と、
前記親のMZM光導波路の2つのアームに光を分波する第1の光分波器と、
前記子のMZM光導波路の2つのアームに光を分波する第2の光分波器と、
前記子のMZM光導波路の2つのアームからの光を合波する第1の光合波器とを備え、
前記2つの電極線路が設けられた前記子のMZM光導波路のストライプ方向に対して、前記RF引出線路のストライプ方向と、前記第2の光分波器のストライプ方向と、前記第1の光合波器のストライプ方向とが同一であり、かつ前記第1の光分波器のストライプ方向は直交関係であることを特徴とするIQ光変調器。 - 前記親のMZM光導波路の2つのアームからの光を合波する第2の光合波器をさらに備え、前記2つの電極線路が設けられた前記子のMZM光導波路のストライプ方向と、該第2の光合波器のストライプ方向が直交関係であることを特徴とする請求項1に記載のIQ光変調器。
- 前記2つの電極線路と該電極線路に接続されたRF引出線路とは差動結合線路で構成されており、前記RF引出線路から入力されて前記電極線路に印加される変調信号は差動信号であることを特徴とする請求項1又は2に記載のIQ光変調器。
- 前記親のMZM光導波路が同一半導体素子内に2つ並列して集積されおり、前記2つの親のMZM光導波路に入力する光信号をX偏波とY偏波とに分離して入力するXY偏波分離用光分波器をさらに備えることを特徴とする請求項1から3のいずれかに記載のIQ光変調器。
- 前記IQ光変調器と同一パッケージ内に差動入出力型の高周波増幅器が搭載され、当該IQ光変調器と高周波増幅器とが金ワイヤのみを介して直接電気接続されていることを特徴とする請求項1から4のいずれかに記載のIQ光変調器。
