Abstract
PURPOSE:To inexpensively obtain a titled sintered body by using an iron- amorphous carbon power mixture for a binder of diamond powder and subjecting the powder to treatments under prescribed conditions. CONSTITUTION:A raw material for sintering is prepd. by mixing 20-5% powder mixture composed of 97-95wt.% iron powder and 3-5% amorphous carbon powder with 80-95% diamond powder and is loaded into a sintering chamber. Then, 48,000-55,000kg/cm<2> sintering pressure is exerted to the above-mentioned raw material and the raw material is gradually heated in this pressurized state up to a 1,200-1,500 deg.C temp. range. The raw material is held for 5-120min at this sintering temp. Only the heating is then stopped while the sintering pressure is kept maintained and further, the sintering chamber is cooled from the outside and after the temp. falls down to 300 deg.C, the maintained sintering pressure is returned to an atm. pressure and the sintered body is taken out of the sintering chamber. The diamond sintered body in which the iron-carbon alloy structure is packed in the gaps among the individual diamond particles and is sintered to the individual diamond particles to form the sintered structure is thereby produced.
