Abstract
PURPOSE:To make metal product in a high reducing yield, by charging a reducing agent of low reactivity and a reducing agent of high reactivity respectively to an inlet side and an outlet side of a rotary kiln, thereby preventing powdering of the pellet in the kiln. CONSTITUTION:A rotary kiln 2 is provided longitudinally with a preheating zone and a reducing zone respectively in inlet 2a side half and in outlet 2b side half thereof. By controlling the quantity of air blow by means of a shell fan 4, the preheating zone is maintained at a comparatively low temp. and the reducing zone at a comparatively high temp. In reducing the pellet packed with reducing agent therein under such conditions, a reducing agent of low reactivity, e.g., coal of high carbonization degree, is furnished to the inlet side 2a, and a reducing agent of high reactivity, e.g., coal of high porosity and low crushing strength, to the outlet side 2b. As a result, reduction is hardly caused in the preheating zone which is at a comparatively low temp., whereas the the pellets are rapidly reduced in the high temp. reducing zone while keeping the prescribed strength of the pellets so as to accelerate metallization. In Figure, 1 is a preheater and 3 is an after-burner.
