Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the gas permeability of a sintering bed and the quality of sintered ore by forming a coke-rich blended layer on the surface layer of blended starting material on a pellet after which this surface layer is preheated to a specified temp. and fired to sinter the material.
CONSTITUTION: Usuall blended starting material 1 is fed onto pellet 7 of the Dwight-Lloyd type sintering machine from hopper 2 through drum feeder 3 and sloping plate 5. A 3W40mm thick layer of blended starting material 1A with a high coke blending rate of 30% or more is charged onto the surface layer of material 1 from hopper 2A through drum feeder 3A and sloping plate 5A. The blended materials thus charged are then fed into preheating furnace 19 as pallet 7 moves. In furnace 19 the surface layer portion is preheated with hot exhaust gas of 200W 500°C, and it is fired in firing furnace 6 to sinter the materials. Thus, the sintering time is shortened, and the fuel unit is reduced.
