Abstract
1,126,811. Sintering machines; rotary hearth kilns. YAWATA IRON & STEEL CO. Ltd. 20 Sept., 1965 [22 Sept., 1964], No. 39909/65. Heading F4B. Powdered or granular material, particularly iron ore, is sintered in an annular, rotary updraught kiln, the material being charged to form a spiral layer, and the sintered material being cut out of the bottom layer. The hearth of the kiln takes the form of an endless conveyer 19, which is inclined over a limited arc so that the bottom layer projects beneath the kiln and is removed by a rotary cutter having blades 22A and a conveyer 41. The material forms from 3-12 layers, the fuel in the charge burning only in the middle layers, so that the charge is preheated and the sintered material cooled by the updraught to suction hoods 5.
