Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent initiation of micro-cracks on welds by partially heating the welded joint forming part using high frequency heating or energy beam such as light beam, and by improving Ni plating layer. CONSTITUTION:A battery jar 1 and a lid 3 having a rise 3a at the periphery are shaped from a code rolled steel plate, and after forming Ni plating layers 1a, 3a, around the rise at the periphery of the lid 3 and around the open end of the battery jar 1 to form a joint 4 are partially heated by high frequency heating etc., followed by annealing, wherein the battery jar 1 shall accommodate such electricity generating element 2 as Ni-Cd battery or lithium battery, and a terminal pin 8a is fixed to the lid 3 through an insulating ring 8b to form a terminal 8, which is fitted to the open end of the battery jar 1, and a laser beam 5 is irradiated from above the formed joint 4 by the use of a YAG laser device etc., to weld the top of the joint 4, which is thus consolidated to form welds 6 and sealed.
