Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a low-cost seal structure which has a high tightness, by joining an exterior can and a metal sealing lid of the exterior can through either laser welding or electron-beam welding. CONSTITUTION:A generation element, which is constituted of positive plates 8 (8A-8C), negative plates 10 (10A and 10B), and separators 11 impregnated with an electrolyte, is installed in a stainless-steel exterior can which also serves as a positive terminal. After that, a sealing lid 2 is fixed on the generation element, and the whole constitutes a button-type battery. The sealing lid 2 is made of a metal such as a stainless steel, and it is provided with a penetrating hole 2'. Annular insulating plates 3, 4 and 5 are attached to the hole 2', which is penetrated by a negative terminal pin 6. A metal washer 7 is connected to the hole 2' to make the plates 3, 4 and 5 to be pressed, and it is tightly fixed. After the sealing lid 2 is installed, the exterior can and the lid 2 are joined by means of a welding method such as laser welding or electron-beam welding in which heat energy can be concentrated on a small area, thus the battery being sealed.
