Abstract
PURPOSE:To provide high strength and high toughness to the titled steel and to improve the service life as the cold tool steel by regulating the contents of P, S, O and N as the impurities in the compsn. of the steel and furthermore adding specific amounts of rare earth elements thereto. CONSTITUTION:The compsn. of the titled steel is constituted of, by weight, 0.75&1.75% C, <=0.025% P, <=0.0030% S, <=0.0050% O, <=0.030% N, 43.0% Si, 0.1-2.0% Mn, 5.0-11.0% Cr, 1.3-5.0% Mo, 0.1-5.0% V, 0.001-0.600% total of at least one kind among rare earth elements and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. The relationship in R=alpha(P)+beta (S) (where 2<=alpha<=7 and 6<=beta<=10 are regulated) is preferably set up among the total content of rare earth elements R, P content and S content. Optimum amounts of one or more kinds among Cu, Ni, W, Co, Nb, Ti and Zr are furthermore incorporated into said compsn. of the steel at need. By this method, high strength and high toughness can be provided to the steel in a well-balanced state.
