Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the toughness while retaining the high hardness of a cold tool steel by regulating the contents of P, S, O and N in the compsn. of the steel to the prescribed value or below and specifying the tempering temp. CONSTITUTION:The compsn. of the cold tool steel is formed with, by weight, 0.75-1.75% C, <=0.020% P, <=0.0030% S, <=0.0030% O, <=0.020% N, <=3.0% Si, 0.1-2.0% Mn, 5.0-11.0% Cr, 1.3-5.0% Mo, 0.1-5.0% V and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities. Optimum amounts of one or more kinds among Cu, Ni, W, Co, Nb, Ti and Zr are furthermore incorporated thereto at need. The steel contg. said compsn. has a tempering effect at >=450 deg.C, is balanced between high hardness and high toughness and can sufficiently resist the sever conditions of cold working.
