Abstract

PURPOSE:To properly and efficiently manufacture a steel material having a carbide spheroidized structure by subjecting a steel having a specified compsn. to intermediate cooling under specified conditions after first-stage working. CONSTITUTION:A steel consisting of, by weight, 0.10-2.00% C, 0.10-1.50% Si, 0.10-2.50% Mn, <=0.12% S and the balance Fe or further contg. one or more among 0.10-2.00% Ni, 0.10-15.00% Cr, 0.10-3.00% Mo, 0.10-19.00% W and 0.10-2.20% V is heated too the Ac3 or Accm point or above, worked at >=10% working rate at the Ar3 or Arcm point or above and immediately cooled to a temp. between the Ar1 point and the Ar3 or Arcm point at 1.5-100 deg.C/sec cooling rate. The resulting steel material is worked at 10-80% working rate in the temp. range and cooled to <=500 deg.C at <=2 deg.C/sec cooling rate.
