PURPOSE:To produce a spring steel material of less decarburization on the surface of the steel material by hot-rolling the specific composition spring steel contg. C, Si, Mn then cooling the same quickly within the temp. range down to the end of Ar3 transformation. CONSTITUTION:Spring steel contg. 0.4-1.1% C, 0.2-2.5% Si, 0.3-1.5% Mn by weight % is hot-rolled, after which it is passed through a temp. range down to the end of Ar3 transformation within a short time. To this end, it is cooled at >=30 deg.C/min cooling rates within 5min in the above-mentioned temp. range. In this way, ferrite decarburization on the surface of the steel material is prevented and the degradation in fatigue characteristics of springs is prevented.
