Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the a die steel having superior toughness, yield strength, fatigue characteristics at ordinary or high temp., etc. and suitable for use as a material for forging dies by adding a predetermined percentage each of C, Si, Mn, Ni, Cr, (2Mo+W), V and one or more kinds of rare earth elements.
CONSTITUTION: This high hardness tough die steel consists of 0.4W1.0% C, 0.4W 1.5% Si, 0.4W1.5% Mn, 0.3W2.0% Ni, 2.0W6.0% Cr, 2.0W15.0% (2Mo+W), 0.5W2.5% V, 0.05W0.60% one or more kinds of rare earth elements and the balance essentially Fe. La, Cs, Nd, etc. are used as the rare earth elements. With the above alloy composition, high hardness tough die steel with superior hardenability is obtained. When higher hardenability and a longer die life are required, 0. 001W 0.050% B or 0.1W12.0% Co is added to the composition.
