Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain alloy cast iron with superior wear and galling resistances by preparing cast iron contg. a specified percentage of C, Si, Mn, Cr, Ni. Mo and Cu.
CONSTITUTION: An alloy consisting of, by wt., 2.0W3.5% C, 1.0W3.0% Si, 1.0W 10.0% Mn, 0.1W1.5% Cr, 3.0W6.5% Ni, 0.1W1.0% Mo, 0.1W2.7% Cu and the balance Fe with inevitable impurities of further contg. at least one of ≤2.0% V and ≤0.5% W is heat-treated at about 450W650°C for about 1W50hr to crystallize free graphite and/or carbide in the structure. Thus, the matrix structure is converted into austenitized acicular structure. The alloy is heat-treated preferably and subzero treated at a temp. below the martensite transformation finish temp., e.g., at about -60°C to convert the matrix structure into metallic structure having martensite structure of high hardness.
