Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide cast iron suitable as raw material for large press mold, excellent in resistance to wear and seizure, cheaper than high-alloy cast iron and alloy steel, having flake or spheroidal graphite in mother material, and having bainite mother structure in as-cast condition.
CONSTITUTION: Cast iron consists in wt% of C: 2.5W4.0%, Si: 1.6W4.0%, Mn: 0.4W1.2%, Ni: 0.5W4.5%, Cu: 1.0W4.5%, Mo: 0.5W2.0%, Cr: 0.1W0.5%, and the balance of Fe and unavoidable impurities. In casting said cast iron, a spheroidizing agent such as Mg, Ce, or Ca is further added to provide spheriodal graphite. This allows spheriodal graphite to enhance lubricating action to further increase resistance to wear and seizure as well as toughness. Thus, the material is suitable for use as raw material for large press mold.
