Abstract

PURPOSE:To stabilize the amorphous state of a magneto-optical recording layer and to prevent the degradation in part of coercive force by repetition of writing and erasing by forming a magneto-optical recording layer on a substrate, then subjecting the recording layer to a heating treatment at a specific temp. CONSTITUTION:The magneto-optical recording layer 2 consisting of an amorphous film is formed by using a sputtering method, etc., on the substrate 1. After the layer 2 is formed, the substrate is subjected to the heating treatment at 40-250 deg.C by putting the substrate into a thermostatic chamber or by using an IR ray lamp, then a protective layer 3 is formed thereon. The amorphous state of the layer 2 is thereby stabilized. Since the heat resistant temp. varies with the material of the substrate 1 in this heating treatment, the treatment is executed at <=250 deg.C in the case of the glass substrate and at <=150 deg.C in the case of the resin substrate. The amorphous film is crystallized at >=250 deg.C and is not stabilized at <=40 deg.C. The degradation in part of the coercive force by the repetition of the writing and erasing is thereby prevented.
