Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain an inexpensive optical recording medium chemically and physically stable and capable of high-sensitivity recording and reproduction with a laser beam, by providing a recording layer comprising a phthalocyanine compound having a specified structure on a substrate. CONSTITUTION:An optical recording medium comprises on a substrate an organic thin film layer comprising at least one phthalocyanine compound of general formula [II]. The phthalocyanine compound has high absorption in visible to near infrared regions, and is suitable for recording and reproduction by a laser beam. The phthalocyanine compound can be produced generally by heating a nitrile of general formula [II] and a metallic salt, preferably in an organic solvent. The substrate may be formed of a glass, a plastic, a paper, a metallic plate or the like. The method for providing the recording layer on the substrate is most preferably a spinner method. With this construction, the optical recording medium is chemically and physically stable, and enables high- sensitivity recording and reproduction with a laser beam.
