Abstract

PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetooptic storage element which has large Kurr rotating angle and can prevent the adhering of dust corrosion, by forming the element with the lamination of a transparent thin film and a transparent protective film and the like having the prescribed relation of refractive index, and a magnetic substance thin film. CONSTITUTION:A magnetooptic storage element is formed by laminating a transparent protective film 1 such as glass having smaller refractive index than that of a transparent thin film 2, on the film 2 such as SiO2 and a magnetic substance thin film 3 of magnetization easy axis which is vertical to the film surface such as MnBi fixed to a support substrate 5 via a bonding layer 4. With this constitution, the Kurr rotating angle is increased with light interference at the film 2 having greater refractive index, the S/N can be increased, the corrosion and adhering of dust to the layer 3 can be prevented, and storage, reproduction and erase by laser can be achieved by the magnetooptic storage element.
