Abstract

An antistatic compsn. for use in photographic, cinematographic, magnetic and electrographic prods. comprises a soln. of an amorphous vitreous cpd. obtd. by fusion of a glass forming oxide associated with modifying oxide(s) of a chemical element pref. a transition metal, which exists in the vitreous cpd. in >=2 valency states. The compsn. has a surface resistivity which is independent of relative humidity and can be applied as a layer having high or low coefft. of friction as reqd., a good mechanical strength, is soluble in water or org. solvent and is eliminable or stable during treatment.
