本発明は光ファイバを基板に取付ける方法、更に詳しく
言えば、高信頼性の光ファイバ・パッケージの製造に好

レーザ技術の利用により高速データ伝送等の新しい情報
伝達が可能となった。特に、レーザ光を1本或いは複数
本の光ファイバに通すことにより高速且つ大量の情報伝

は柔軟性があり、ガラス或いはプラスチックから製造さ
れる。

「発明の概要」
本発明によれば、従来と同様に、光ファイバの最外部を
金屑で被覆した光ファイバを収納或いは挿入する溝を有

板22には固着されない。

第6図は、レーザ光源支持部50(公知のレーザダイオ
ード54が取付けられている)に画定した光ファイバ・
パッケージ10(加熱後の完成品)の長袖方向の断面図
である。加熱後の光ファイバ・パッケージ10の特徴は
強固に一体化されていることである。シリコン/金の共
融合金は約370°Cの融点を有し、この融点温度は、
光ファイバ・パッケージ10をレーザ光源支持部50に
取付ける温度よりかなり高温である。光ファイバ・パッ
ケージ10は、半田付は等により、370°C(シリコ
ン/金の共融温度)以下の温度でレーザ光源支持部50
に取付けられるため、光ファイバ・パッケージ10の接
着部を損なうことはない。

このように、シリコン/金の共融合金の使用を含む本発
明の方法は、光ファイバ・パラゲージ製造に顕著な効果
を有する。更に、本発明によれは、部品固着の際の不純
物混入(例えば、鉛/錫の半田を使用する場合の不純物
混入)の問題を回避できる。更に又、2つの機能を有す
る支持手段の使用により、システムの構造−休止が促進
される。
明の方法は、光ファイバ・パラゲージ製造に顕著な効果
を有する。更に、本発明によれは、部品固着の際の不純
物混入(例えば、鉛/錫の半田を使用する場合の不純物
混入)の問題を回避できる。更に又、2つの機能を有す
る支持手段の使用により、システムの構造−休止が促進
される。
支持手段16は、後述する好ましい膨脂特性を有するば
かに、光ファ・イバ・システムの他の部材に容易に且つ
確実に取付けられる素材(シリコン)から成っている6 更に、本発明に係る方法は、光ファイバと基板との熱膨
張係数の相違に関連した問題を除去できる。上述したよ
うに、加熱前に光ファイバを基板に直接取付ける場合に
は応力の問題が生ずる。本発明に用いる典型的な光ファ
イバ(石英ガラスがら製造して金めつきを施したもの)
は約0.5×10−6°c −1の熱膨張係数を有し、
一方、通常のアルミナ基板の熱膨張係数は約7.0X1
.0−6℃−1である。したがって、上記の光ファイバ
を直接上記アルミナ基板に熱固着する場合には熱膨張係
数の差による問題が生じ、動作温度及び組立温度におい
て構造の一体化強度を損なう可能性がある。

光ファイバをシリコン製支持手段の溝の内部で固着する
場合、光ファイバ及び支持手段の熱膨張係数が略々同じ
であれば、熱膨張係数に基づく位置ずれの問題は解消さ
れる。本発明に使用する高純度のシリコン製の光ファイ
バ支持手段の熱膨張係数は略々2.5X10’℃−1で
ある。

第1図、第3図及び第5図に示す第1実施例では、光フ
ァイバ12はシリコン製の支持手段16に予め固着され
ている。光ファイバの一部が基板22と固着していても
、完成した光ファイバ・パッケージの試験結果では、従
来の取付方法に比較した場合、バラゲージ内部の応力に
関連しな問題は最少限に抑えられた。一方、第2図及び
第4図の第2実施例では、光ファイバ12の基板22へ
の固着を避けることができるが、大量生産の観点からは
第1実施例の方が適している。
ァイバ12はシリコン製の支持手段16に予め固着され
ている。光ファイバの一部が基板22と固着していても
、完成した光ファイバ・パッケージの試験結果では、従
来の取付方法に比較した場合、バラゲージ内部の応力に
関連しな問題は最少限に抑えられた。一方、第2図及び
第4図の第2実施例では、光ファイバ12の基板22へ
の固着を避けることができるが、大量生産の観点からは
第1実施例の方が適している。
[発明の効果]
本発明によると、シリコン製の光ファイバ支持手段に設
けた溝に光ファイバを挿入し、この光ファイバ支持手段
を金属パッドを有する基板上に置き、基板、光ファイバ
支持手段、及び光ファイバを高温で加熱して相互に固着
する。このように、組み立てた光パッケージ全体を加熱
固着するので、固着途中で位置すれを生ずるの虞はない
。特に、加熱を基板の底面に設けた被膜抵抗に通電する
ことにより行っているので、組立後に加熱のために移動
する必要がない。つまり、遠隔操作により加熱が可能な
ため、位置ずれの虞がない光パッケージを得ることがで
きる。

を金属パッドを有する基板上に置き、基板、光ファイバ
支持手段、及び光ファイバを高温で加熱して相互に固着
する。このように、組み立てた光パッケージ全体を加熱
固着するので、固着途中で位置すれを生ずるの虞はない
。特に、加熱を基板の底面に設けた被膜抵抗に通電する
ことにより行っているので、組立後に加熱のために移動
する必要がない。つまり、遠隔操作により加熱が可能な
ため、位置ずれの虞がない光パッケージを得ることがで
きる。
第1図及び第2図は夫々本発明の第1及び第2実施例を
説明する分解斜視図、第3図及び第4図は夫々第1及び
第2実施例の方法により組立てた光ファイバ・パッケー
ジ1oの加熱処理前の斜視図、第5図は第3図の線5−
5がら見た断面図、第6図は本発明の方法により組立て
た光ファイバ・パッケージの縦軸方向の側面図である。 図中、10は光ファイバ・パッケージ、12は光ファイ
バ、16は光ファイバ支持手段、18は渭、22は基板
、24.29はパッド、5oはレーザ光源支持手段、5
4はレーザ光源を示す。

第2実施例の方法により組立てた光ファイバ・パッケー

Claims (1)
- 【特許請求の範囲】 1)光ファイバを収納する溝を有するシリコン製の光フ
ァイバ支持手段を用意し、 上記溝に、少なくとも1層の金属層を被覆した光ファイ
バを挿入し、 少なくとも1個の金属パッドを設けた基板上に、上記光
ファイバ支持手段が上記金属パッドに接するように、上
記光ファイバ支持手段を置き、上記基板、上記光ファイ
バ支持手段、及び上記光ファイバを高温加熱して固着す
る ことを特徴とする光ファイバ・パッケージの製造方法。 2)上記加熱は、上記基板に形成した加熱用抵抗被膜に
通電して行うことを特徴とする特許請求の範囲第1項記
載の光ファイバ・パッケージの製造方法。
