Abstract
PURPOSE: In reacting toluidine with a thiocyanate and a mineral acid in the presence of water, to obtain the titled compound useful as an intermediate raw material for dye, agricultural chemical, etc. at raised reaction rate in high purity in high yield, by using limited excess amount of the mineral acid.
CONSTITUTION: In reacting toluidine with a thiocyanate and a mineral acid in the presence of water to give tolylthioureas, the amount of the mineral acid used is 1.05W1.5 times the standard stoichiometric amount of toluidine, and the reaction is carried out at 20W120°C, preferably at 60W90°C. The amount of water used is an amount to give the concentration of the mineral acid of preferably 20W40wt%.
