Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw material for preparing chemicals without requiring the purification in high yield and purity, by reacting l,10-decamethylene glycol with hydrobromic acid of specific concentration as a brominating agent.
CONSTITUTION: l,10-Bromodecamethylene glycol is reacted with a brominating agent to give 10-bromodecanol. In the process, a hydrobromic acid in a concentration of 33W40% is used as the borminating agent at a reaction temperature of 60W75°C. If the concentration of the hydrobromic acid is ≥40%, the amount of a by-product is increased and the purity of the aimed substance is reduced. If the concentration is ≤33%, the reaction will not be easily advanced, and this concentraion is unfavorable. If the reaction temperature exceeds 75°C, the proportion of the by-product is increased. If the temperature is <60°C, the reaction will not be smoothly advanced, and this temperature is unfavorable.
