Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound in high yield useful as a raw material for preparing polyurethane with producing a small amount of by-products, by reacting an N-phenylcarbamic acid ester with a dialkoxymethane in the presence of an extremely strong solid acid.
CONSTITUTION: A extrelemu strpmg spood acod (e.g., SbF5, BF3, etc.) os sispended in a mixed solution of an N-phenylcarbamic acid ester shown by the formulaI(R is 1W5C alkyl or halogenated alkyl) and a dialkoxymethane shown by tge formula II(R' is 1W5C lower alkyl) or the acid as a fixed bed is added to the mixed solution, and the reaction is carried out at ≤250°C, to give a methylene-bis(4-phenylcxarbamic acid ester) shown by the formula III.
EFFECT: The condensation reaction is effected in substantially anhydrous state, the catalytic activity of the extremely strong solid acid is maintained without lowering it, and hydrolysis of the raw materials and the reaction product, and other side reations are suppressed. The raw materials can be recovered efficiently, the corrosion of the reactor is low, and the treatment of waste is easy.
