Abstract

PURPOSE: To suppress the side reactions in the ring-closing reaction of an alkylbenzoyl benzoic acid in the presence of oleum, and to prepare the title compound useful as an additive for the preparation of H2O2, in high yield, by adding boric acid to the reaction system.
CONSTITUTION: The tittle compound is prepared by the ring-closing reaction of a compound of formula I (R is 2W8C alkyl) in the presence of oleum and boric acid, at 100W180°C for ≤60 minutes. The amount of the boric acid depends upon the concentration and the amount of oleum, and is determined by the formula II [B is (weight of boric acid)/(weight of oleum)×100; A is concentration of SO3 in oleum (%), C is -2W+2]. The SO3 concentration of oleum is 5W65wt%.
EFFECT: Since the reaction is carried out at high temperature, the amount of oleum can be reduced, and the reaction time is shortened.
