Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare the titled compound which can be recrystallized and is useful as a raw material of pharmaceuticals, etc., in high purity, by hydrolyzing a 2-mercaptothiazoline compound with a hydrohalogenic acid at a ratio within a specific range.
CONSTITUTION: The titled compound of formula II (R1, R2, R3 and R4 are H, lower alkyl or hydroxy-substituted lower alkyl) is prepared by hydrolyzing 1mol of a 2-mercaptothiazoline compound of formulaIwith 4W8mol of hydrohalogenic acid of formula HX (X is halogen such as Cl) at 120W130°C for 10W35hr.
EFFECT: The hydrolytic conversion of as high as ≥80% which is sufficiently high to enable the recrystallization operation, can be attained in a relatively short time.
