Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a flame-retardant for pater, etc. having improved heat stability, advantageously even in the admixture of water, and in high purity by one process, by reacting sulfamic acid with dicyandiamide while ammonia is fed to the reaction system sufficiently.
CONSTITUTION: In the process of ammonia, sulfamic acid and dicyandiamide are subjected to batch reaction, to give sulfamic acid guanidine. The rate of addition of ammonia is controlled to make pH ≥7. Usually, in the presence of ammonia, sulfamic acid and dicyandiamide are added in the form of powder and reacted while an ammonia gas is being introduced to a solution of sulfamic acid guanidine which is made molten by heating. A solvent such as water may be used. The titled substance with a purity ≥95% can be obtained easily.
