Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare melamine cyanurate useful as a flame retardant for polyamide resins, by feeding at the same time, melamine, cyanuric acid and less amount of water than required to dissolve both of the compounds, to a stirring-type dryer attached with a heating equipment and a vacuum equipment.
CONSTITUTION: Melamine, cyanuric acid (equimolar amount to melamine), and water (50W500wt% on the basis of the sum of both compounds) are fed at the same time to a stirring-type dryer attached with a heating equipment and a vacuum equipment, mixed, reacted and vacuum-dried to remove water, whereby melamine cyanurate is prepared in one step. Melamine and cyanuric acid are preferably fine powder to facilitate the mixing, and the average particle size is preferably ≤100μ.
EFFECT: Mixing, reaction and drying are more easily performed in one small equipment compared with the aqueous solution reaction method. Therefore this process is excellent both in productivity and economy.
