Abstract
PURPOSE: To separate a mixture of benzotrifluoride derivatives containing 2- nitro-5-chloro-substituted compound and 3-nitro-4-chloro-substituted compound into the components, easily, in high efficiency, by treating the mixture with a proper reaction reagent, thereby exclusively proceeding the reaction of the 4-positioh chlorine atom.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture containing 2-nitro-5-chlorobenzotrifluoride and 3-nitro- 4-chloro-benzotrifluoride is treated with a reaction reagent which is reactive with the latter compound but essentially inert to the former one, and one of the reaction products is separated and recovered from the reaction mixture. For example, the 4-position chlorine atom of the latter compound is substituted either with hydroxyl group by mixing the mixture with powdery caustic alkali (0.5W1.5times mol) in an aprotic polar solvent (1W10 times vol), or with substituted or unsubstituted amino group by reacting with a prim- or sec-amine or ammonia (≥2 times equivalent), and the latter compound is separated from the former compound left essentially unreacted.
