Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled compound useful as a raw mateial for dithianon, agricultural chemical, inexpensively in high yield, by reacting an alkali prussiate with carbon diulfide in a mixed solvent of acetone and dimethyl sulfoxide, followed by adding water to the reaction mixture so that sulfur is separated.
CONSTITUTION: An alkali prussiate (e.g., sodium pressuiate, potassium prussiate, etc.) is reacted with carbon disulfide in a mixed solvent of acetone and dimethyl sulfoxide under reflux for 4W12hr. Acetone is separated from the prepared reaction mixture. Water is added to the reaction mixture, and crystallized sulfur is separated. The amount of dimethyl sulfoxide used is 0.3W20wt%, preferably 1.5W10wt% based on acetone. Oly a small amount of expensive and not easily recoverable dimethyl sulfoxide is used, and inexpensive and easily recoverable acetone is used as the main solvent.
