Abstract

PURPOSE:To simplify 2-image-overlay, by selecting relationship between illumination of each original for exposure and sensitivity of a photoreceptor, and the like so as to convert a certain position of the photoreceptor into a black image after development when it is exposed to black at least once in twice exposures, and to convert another certain position into a white image when it is exposed to light both in the 2 exposures. CONSTITUTION:When 2 kinds of originals are overlaid, that is, double exposures are carried out, the first exposure is set to about the half of the total exposure. The surface potential of a photosensitive drum corresponding to the white ground of the first original image becomes a state not sufficiently decayed (Point C1), and if this is developed in such a state, it is converted into a whole black image. Then, in the second exposure, the drum is exposed to the same exposure as the first exposure, i.e. the half of the total exposure, for the second overlaid original. The gamma value of development is raised in the part low in surface potential so as to convert this electrostatic latent image exposed to half the exposure into a black level, thus permitting 2 sheets of originals to be synthesized easily by a positive developing method.
