The surface potential of a photosensitive drum corresponding to the white ground of the first original image becomes a state not sufficiently decayed (Point C1), and if this is developed in such a state, it is converted into a whole black image. Then, in the second exposure, the drum is exposed to the same exposure as the first exposure, i.e. the half of the total exposure, for the second overlaid original.
