Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve gradation characteristics of images by correcting the electric signal having been converted from original scanning light, performing exposure through the use of the light which is controlled of intensity with this correction signal and making the relations between the original signal light and electrostatic latent images linear.

CONSTITUTION: The original scanning light by an exposure lamp 13 via the reference image density pattern 11 on an original base 12 is converted to electric signal by self-scanning type photoelectric transducers 31 thru 33. The electric signal is then applied to a modulator 40 via converter 30 according to selection. This causes the laser light from a laser generator 41 to be intensity modulated according to scanning exposure light, thereby forming latent images on a photosensitive drum 45. Next, when the toner concentration of the sensible images having been developed is detected with a detector 45, the digital value corresponding to the image density of an A/D converter 57 is applied to an arithmetic part 58 and the modulator 40 is controlled via arithmetic part 58 and converter 39. As a result, the drum 45 is exposed by the laser light of the corrected intensity and the latent images being in a linear relation with the original signal at the light scanning are formed on the drum 45, thus the gradation characteristic of the copyied color images becomes good.
