Abstract

PURPOSE:To automate formation of a positive copy always from a negative or positive original image, and to eliminate miscopying, by comparing the light intensity transmitted through a recorded image with a given reference value, judging a negative or positive image, and selecting a toner. CONSTITUTION:The light intensity transmitted through a positive image is higher than that through a negative image. The projected image of a microfilm is scanned with a measuring instrument 121 consisting of a photoelectric converter to measure the transmission light intensity of the film and to produce voltage corresponding to the received intensity. This output is compared with the first reference voltage of a first comparator 233. When it is higher, a positive signal is produced to execute normal development using a negative charging toner. When the output of the measuring instrument 121 is lower than the second reference voltage lower than the first reference voltage, the negative signal of the second comparator 235 causes a positive charging toner to execute reversal development, thus permitting a positive copy to be always automatically made independent of positive and negative original images, and miscopying to be eliminated.
