Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the production of defective images owing to developer characteristics, soiling of optical sytem, etc. by detecting image densities and correcting the signal corresponding to this detection output by detecting fluctuation components with time such as deveoper fatigue, decrease in intensity of illumination of optical system, etc.
CONSTITUTION: An arithmetic controller 10 operates the deveoping bias voltage VE from the output of a detector 7. This operation involves superimposing a bias voltage to a mean value Vsd of the surface potential of a photosensitive drum 3 to provide a developing bias voltage. This superimposed bias voltage is adjusted according to the output of a developer fatigue detector 8 by a bias adjuster 11. Hence, the developing bias voltage VE outputted from the arithmetic controller 10 becomes the one wherein the bias voltage Vaf increasing with an increase in the fatigue degree a of the developer is superimposed on the mean value Vsd and is expressed by VE=Vsd+Vaf, which is then applied to a developing electrode 5. Then, the ground soiling owing to the fatigue of the developer may be prevented.
