Abstract

PURPOSE:To perform color balancing that takes developing gamma characteristics into consideration by storing the optimum latent image gamma characteristics for color balance by each color toner according to the developing gamma characteristics of the respective color toners. CONSTITUTION:Optimum latent image gamma characteristics according to developing gamma characteristics are stored in a storage part 31. In accordance with electrostaic charging and the color separated images of a reference pattern SP by gray scale, a photoreceptor 1 is exposed. The surface potential of the exposed positions is detected and is compared with the latent image gamma characteristics stored by a storage part 31. The potential of a charger 2 and the quantity of light of a lamp 21 are adjusted until these coincide. The charging potential and exposure light quantity obtd. in this way are set as exposure conditions. The charging conditions and exposure light quantity are determined in the similar manner as for other color separation. In this way, the color balancing that takes the developing gamma characteristics into consideration is accomplished.
