Abstract
PURPOSE: To enhance the efficiency in removing phosphate ions and reduce the amount of sludge generated, by a method wherein phosphate ion containing water subjected to a pH adjustment is contacted to Mg(OH)2 or MgO in the presence of Ca2+ ions derived from a neutral salt of Ca.
CONSTITUTION: Water to be treated which containins a small amount of phosphate ions and is adjusted to a pH6W8, as required. After adding a neutral salt of Ca to the water, Mg(OH)2 or MgO is added to the water, followed by stirring to form a suspension. Then, precipitates are separated and removed by flocculation separation, filtration or the like. Alternatively, after adding the neutral Ca salt, the water is passed through a packed tower which is packed with Mg(OH)2 or MgO, and the resultant suspended solids are separated and removed. Thus, a high grade treatment for removing a small amount of residual phosphate ions in the water to be treated can be accomplished.
