Abstract

PURPOSE: To efficiently coagulate, sediment and remove arsenic, by adjusting the pH level of hot water containing silicic acid and by electrolytically adding a required quantity iron ions to the hot water and then electrolytically adding a required quantity of aluminium ions to the hot water.
CONSTITUTION: The pH level of the hot water gushing from the underground and containing silicic acid is adjusted to 3 to 4.5. The iron ions about 5 to 10 times more than the arsenic contained in the hot water are added thereto by electrolysis. Then, the required quantity of aluminium ions are added to the hot water by electrolysis. As a result, a sedimented iron hydroxide having adsorbed the arsenic and having a high removing property is produced. The arsenic content of the treated water is 0.01 to 0.05 ppm.
