Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve dehydration property, without adding a toxic chemical coagulant, to the same degree as its addition by removing cations from sludge to be treated.
CONSTITUTION: Before the step of a freeze-melt unit 4, is installed a cation remover unit 11 filled with H-type cation exchange resin, and a centrifugal or vacuum type dehydrator unit 5 is installed downstream. Thus, the installation of the cation exchange unit 11 before the freeze-melt unit 4 lowers pH of sludge to be treated and results in nearly the same dehydration effect as adding a coagulant. This provides dehydrated cake of low water content and not containing a toxic coagulant chemical.
