Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the dehydration effect, without the use of a coagulant, to the same degree as its use by a method wherein part of water discharged from a water treatment unit is allowed in the manner that only its cation is exchanged with H+ ions so as to provide acidic water, which is then added to sludge discharged from said water treatment unit.
CONSTITUTION: Part of water discharged from a water treatment unit 21 is guided in a cation exchange resin filled tower 23 where only cation is exchanged with H+ to increase H+ ions, thereby providding acidic water. The acidic water is mixed 24 with sludge discharged from the treatment unit to cause pH of the sludge to lower below a specified value, then the sludge is supplied to a freeze-melt treatment unit 3 in the next step. In this manner, the sludge treatment unit and the freeze- melt treatment unit are coordinately combined so that the sludge dehydration effect can be sufficiently enhanced without using a harmful toxic chemical as a sludge coagulant.
