Abstract

PURPOSE: To reduce the amount of sludge generated by purifying treatment as well as precipitate and remove effectively fluorine present in waste water in form of calcium fluoride.
CONSTITUTION: An acid waste water containing fluorine is mixed with a water- soluble calcium salt, e.g., calcium chloride, etc., and then mixed with slaked lime to regulate its pH to 2W6 to form calcium fluoride. Then, slaked lime is added to the waste water to regulate its pH to 7W10 to precipitate calcium fluoride which is, in turn, removed. Thus, the amount of water-soluble calcium salt and slaked lime used can be more greatly reduced than the conventional methods and also the removal of fluorine can be effectively attained and the amount of sludge generated can also be greatly reduced.
