Abstract

PURPOSE: To remove phosphorus from phosphorus containing water in high efficiency by adding a basic magnesium salt such as basic magnesium carbonate to water with pH 9W12 containing phosphorus as a coagulant.
CONSTITUTION: 20 l tap water is contained in a raw water tank 1 and a phosphate is contained in said tap water in an amount of 10 mg/l as phosphate ion to prepare phosphorus containing water. 2l of the resulting phosphorus containing water is sent into a contact reaction tank 3 by using a pump 2 and 20g powdery basic magnesium carbonate is added to the tank 3 as a coagulant and stirring is carried out for 30min to precipitate phosphate ion as a substance hardly soluble in water along with the coagulant in the contact reaction tank by precipitation or adsorption reaction or the like. The pH or treating water (a supernatant liquid) is pref. 9W12. As the coagulant, in addition to basic magnesium carbonate, magnesium oxide and magnesium carbonate are used together.
