Abstract

PURPOSE: To permit of draining waste water, by adding a metal salt to the waste water to sediment and remove solids therefrom and treating the waste water with activated charcoal.
CONSTITUTION: A solution of the metal salt such as an aluminium salt or a ferric salt for producing a deposit at a pH level of 5.5 to 9 prescribed for draining is added to the waste water resulting from the fumigation of lumber and having a high COD, SS and oil content so that most of the harmful constituents of the waste water are sedimented and remived. Caustic alkali is then added to the waste water to set its pH level within a range prescribed for draining. The remaining COD is then almost eliminated by the adsorption with the activated charcoal or by the oxidation with ozone.
