Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a brass alloy excellent in wear resistance and having a low frictional coefficient, by specifying the ingredients of Cu, Mn, Fe, Al, Ni, Pb, P, Ti, graphite and Zn.
CONSTITUTION: The brass alloy is prepared from 55.0 to 83wt% of Cu, 0.1 to 5.0wt% of Mn, 0.5 to 4.0wt% of Fe, 0.5 to 7.5wt% of Al, 0.1 to 1.0wt% of Ni, 0.1 to 20.0wt% of Pb, 0.1 to 1.0wt% of P, 0.1 to 2.0wt% of Ti, 1.0 to 10.0wt% of graphite, if necessary 0.1 to 2.0wt% of Sn, further if necessary 0.5 to 2.0wt% of two or more metals chosen from the group consisting of Cr, Si, Ce and Ze, and balance of Zn. Preferably, the shape of the graphite particles used is massive or spherical, and the exposed surface area of the graphite particles is in the order of 15 to 50% for the sliding area. Thus an alloy is obtained which is useful for a sliding plate and an oilless bearing employed under a higher pressure.
